Xavier de Maistre, graduate at Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino, has been a student of Mario Calandri and Francesco Franco who passed on the passion for engraving.

This is the method he has chosen in order to represent the world that surrounds him, and the remote and ancestral memory of what that world was many years ago.

Fantasy Scenes, relived with closed eyes, of ancient cities and castles where mankind lived it's own isolation with indifference and solidarity for his neighbours: all alike, all alone, all soldiers.

Then there are forests with it's natural inhabitants that few people are still able to see. These houses and forests are endangered values, and Xavier de Maistre, in his way, becomes their fascinated, but worried keeper.
